"Marshfield Area Respite Care Center is a “win-win” arrangement for us. Martha looks forward to going, receives personal attention, and is encouraged to do activities she enjoys and would not do at home. We get time to take care of things knowing she is safe and receiving excellent care."

Dear Editor,

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Marshfield Fire and Rescue and Marshfield Police Department for their gift of compassion for the final care of Bill Collins. I am especially grateful for their empathy shown to Wil and myself as we were in shock at Bill’s sudden passing.

For over thirteen years, I was Bill’s caregiver. He thought of me as his sister and treated me like family.

Originally from Chicago, it didn’t take long for Bill to consider Marshfield as his home. Bill also had an extended family during this time at the Marshfield Area Respite Care Center (MARCC). Bill participated in their United Way social program for those with dementia. Bill looked forward to attending MARCC to socialize with friends. His favorite activities were playing Yahtzee, holding Marilyn’s dog, Stewie, and being the drummer on music days. He fondly remembered to bring candy for everyone. Bill was never afraid to give a hug.

While Bill attended MARCC, I was able to keep myself healthy by exercising at the YMCA and just have time for myself. I needed a break to rejuvenate my energy to continue to be Bill’s caregiver.

I want to thank MARCC’s director, Marilyn, and her staff for their loving care for Bill. I know Bill will always be remembered by his MARCC family.

Marshfield is a wonderful, caring community.
